inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. UGM Maritime Law Geospatial Expert, I Made Andi Arsana, suggested that the government form a coordinating institution to safeguard Indonesia's maritime and seas.
In his statement, he gave an example that during the tenure of the 7th President Joko Widodo, there was a Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs.
"Without the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs, who will take its role? I honestly don't know yet, ideally there should be someone who takes care of maritime affairs," he said, as reported by the RRI page on Sunday (2/23/2025).
According to him, coordination in a maritime issue is not easy to do. So, if there is an institution like the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs, clear regulations and coordination can be made.
Furthermore, he said that the appointment of the figure in the institution must also be right. Like in the era of President Jokowi where Luhut Pandjaitan was appointed as the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs.
"Indeed, at that time, Luhut's leadership was strong and his program was clear, such as how Indonesia determines the bay and so on," he concludes.
