Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. Puncak Jaya Sub-regional Police Chief Superintendent Kuswara confirmed on Monday (24/2/2025) that the deployment of 400 security personnel in Mulia, Central Papua, following the Constitutional Court’s ruling on the Puncak Jaya regional election dispute.

The deployment of the security personnel, consisting of the Indonesian Military (TNI) soldiers and the Indonesian National Police (INP)’s officers, aims to prevent renewed hostilities between rival supporters after previous clashes resulted in two fatalities, 163 injuries, and 55 houses burned, according to antaranews.com.

“Security forces are conducting foot patrols and engaging with residents to ensure public safety,” Chief Kuswara said, emphasizing that the overall security situation remains under control.

Local reports indicate that fear of further violence has forced residents to remain indoors, with traders temporarily closing businesses.

The 2024 Puncak Jaya regional election featured two candidate pairs: Yuni Wonda–Mus Kogoya and Miren Kogoya–Wendi. The Constitutional Court ordered a vote recount for 22 districts, excluding four disputed districts, to be conducted by the General Elections Commission (KPU) in Jakarta, signaling a critical step toward electoral resolution.
