Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) confirmed on Saturday (25/1/2025) that the railway track between Gubug and Karangjati stations in Grobogan, Central Java, has collapsed again due to flooding caused by the overflowing Tuntang River.
The track at KM 32+5/7, located in Papanrejo Village, Gubug Subdistrict, was hit by the strong current from the river after heavy rainfall on Friday.
Abdul Muhari, the Head of BNPB’s Data, Information, and Communication Center, explained on that the rainfall in both Grobogan and upstream Semarang triggered the rise in Tuntang River water levels, which eroded the track foundation and materials. By around 10 pm, the floodwaters caused the railway bed to collapse once more.
As a result, train services on the northern route from Jakarta to Surabaya have been disrupted. State-owned train operator KAI DAOP IV Semarang has rerouted 11 trains via alternative routes to mitigate the impact, according to antaranews.com.
Local authorities, including BPBD Grobogan, the search and rescue teams, the military, the police and volunteers, are working on emergency response efforts. The elevated water levels in the Tuntang River are now in an alert status, prompting evacuations in flood-prone areas.
