The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) representing Indonesia recently held its ninth annual bilateral consultation meeting with the Australian Government, represented by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to bolster counter-terrorism cooperation, a senior official said.
"The ninth bilateral consultation meeting is an annual meeting to strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation," BNPT Head Commissioner General Rycko Amelza Dahniel said in a written statement reported by antaranews.comon Saturday (16/9/2023).
He said that the meeting, which was held in Canberra earlier on Thursday (14/9/2023) also served as an implementation of the memorandum of understanding between both nations on countering terrorism and violent extremism.
During the meeting, discussions revolved around terrorism threat assessments, including about online radicalization targeting young people; terrorist groups, and terrorism financing as well as future priorities for countering terrorism.
General Rycko emphasized the importance of cooperation and collaboration in tackling terrorism, highlighting the multidisciplinary nature of the bilateral consultation meeting as evidence of the close partnership between the two countries and the significance of collaboration among stakeholders.
Australian Ambassador for Counter Terrorism Richard Feakes expressed appreciation for the existing counter-terrorism cooperation between Indonesia and Australia.
"Indonesia is an important partner for Australia in countering terrorism and I appreciate the various collaborations that have been established so far," he said.
Indonesia and Australia have raised their commitment to continuing cooperation, both through dialogue at the bilateral level, regional and multilateral forums, as well as various technical cooperation.
