Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Fair and equitable water management globally will take center stage at the 10th World Water Forum, which is scheduled from 18-25 May2024, in Bali.
Mohammad Zainal Fatah, the Chairman of the Secretariat of the National Committee for the 10th World Water Forum andthe former Secretary-General of the Ministry of Public Works and People's Housing, considered the forum as a prime opportunity for Indonesia to showcase its commitment to tackling global water management challenges.
"This forum allowed countries to exchange experiences, innovations, and solutions in water resources management, particularly given the increasingly palpable impacts of climate change," he said on Friday (10/5/2024).
Themed "Water for Shared Prosperity," the forum comprises three primary processes: political, regional, and thematic, engaging all pertinent stakeholders. The thematic process encompassed six sub-themes aimed at fostering global solutions.
These sub-themes include water security and prosperity, water for humans and nature, disaster risk reduction and management, governance, cooperation, and hydro-diplomacy, sustainable water finance, and knowledge and innovation.
The regional process will cover Asia-Pacific, Americas, Africa, and the Mediterranean regions. The political process will involve heads of states, parliamentarians, ministerial, local authorities, and basin authorities.
"Each country faces unique water management challenges, necessitating a comprehensive regional approach. Water management policies will be deliberated across various levels, from implementation to Heads of State," explained Zainal.
Firdaus Ali, the Chairman of Division VI Registration, Website, and Information Systems of the National Committee for the 10th World Water Forum and the former Special Staff to the Minister of Public Works and People's Housing for Water Resources, emphasized Indonesia's advocacy for peace in water diplomacy or hydro-diplomacy.
Indonesia aims to prioritize dignity and constructive problem-solving in its dialogue at the forum.
Co-initiated by the Government of Indonesia and the World Water Council (WWC), the forum pushes forward four proposals, envisaged to garner collective agreement. These included establishing the Centre of Excellence on Water and Climate Resilience (COE), mainstreaming Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) on Small Islands, designating World Lake Day (WLD), and integrating them into the Ministerial Declaration Compendium of Concrete Deliverables and Actions, providing a tangible roadmap following the 10th World Water Forum.
