inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) stated that approximately six million liters of used cooking oil from the Free Nutritional Meal Program (MBG) has significant potential to support the development of green energy and the national circular economy.

BGN Head Dadan Hindayana stated that each Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) is estimated to produce around 500 to 590 liters of used cooking oil per month. With the number of SPPGs currently reaching around 17,200 units on Java, the potential for used cooking oil production is estimated at 6 million liters per month.

"So, if you multiply that by 500 liters, that's approximately 6 million liters per month," said Dadan on Friday (5/8/2026).

According to him, each SPPG uses an average of around 800 liters of cooking oil per month, most of which is converted into used cooking oil.

"I was surprised to find that each SPPG uses approximately 800 liters of cooking oil every month, 70 percent of which ends up as used cooking oil," said Dadan.

He explained that cooking oil use within the SPPG environment is also limited to maintain the quality of the food provided to beneficiaries of the MBG Program.

"It's important to note that at BGN, oil is not allowed to be used frequently; a maximum of three times a day, it becomes used cooking oil," said Dadan. 

In addition to utilizing used cooking oil, BGN has also begun promoting the use of alternative energy within SPPG operations through the use of natural gas and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) networks in several regions to strengthen a cleaner and more efficient energy system.

Dadan believes that the potential of millions of liters of used cooking oil could be the first step in building collaboration to develop green energy based on a circular economy while strengthening national energy independence.
