inp.polri.go.di - Jakarta. The West Java Regional Police's Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team has successfully identified 80 bodies from the landslide in Pasirlangu Village, Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency.

The Head of the Medical and Health Division of the West Java Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Iwansyah, stated that the DVI post has received 99 body bags from the joint Search and Rescue (SAR) team.

"All unidentified bodies were taken to Sartika Asih Hospital and placed in refrigerated containers," said Iwansyah on Tuesday (2/10/2026).

He explained that the identification process cannot be guaranteed to be completed quickly because it depends heavily on matching DNA data from the victims' families.

"If the Indonesian National Police (INP) DNA laboratory has a comparison, we will immediately compare the match between the reporting party and the victim," he said.

According to Iwansyah, the families of the victims who reported the bodies have been asked to submit DNA samples to expedite the matching process. Any new findings from the disaster site will also be immediately examined without waiting for the search operation to conclude.

Furthermore, the DVI team faces challenges because not all body bags contain intact bodies. Some contain only body parts.

"Of the 15 body bags still being examined, two contain skin from the feet and hands. Hopefully, they can be identified," he said.

Iwansyah added that there is a possibility that these body parts are not related to the missing persons report, making DNA matching more time-consuming.

He confirmed that although the official search operation has ended, victim identification services will remain open until all the bodies have been identified.

"Formally, the operation is closed, but we will continue to provide services until all the bodies at Sartika Asih Hospital have been identified," he said.

Iwansyah emphasized that if the DNA results match the reporting family's data, the police will immediately announce the victim's identity. However, if there is no match, the examination process will be repeated using other methods.
