A Total 1,116 Passports Confiscated Following Arrests on TPPO Suspects in NTB

The West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Police confiscate 1,116 passports following the uncovering of a human trafficking case by one of illegal Placement for Indonesian Migrant Workers (P3MI), PT. Mahesa Tunggal Putra. “Of the 1,116 passports, 1,107 of them were confiscated from our search at the office of Mahesa Tunggal Putra in Ampenan, Mataram City. The other nine were taken from nine victims,” says NTB Regional Police Inspector General Raden Umar Faroq on Wednesday (2/7/2024). From the disclosure of the case, investigators named four prime suspects with the initials of RS (38), MS (55), S (41), and BK. Faroq says that each of the suspects have their own roles. According to the initial investigation results, BK who is the director of the company who employed RS, MS and S. RS acts as a field worker recruiting the migrant worker. While, MS and S are those who are tasked with making the passport for the worker. From the initial investigation, police state that BK is in Malaysia as of now. Relating to the passport, NTB Regional Police still cannot confirm the legitimacy of those passports and is coordinating with the immigration parties. On the other hand, the disclosure of the case began when nine victims reported to the police due to them not being departed to their work destinations. After going through the case, police found that the company does not have the legal permission and is unregistered in the P3MI. With the apprehension of the four suspects, they will be charged with Article 10 and/or Article 11 in conjunction with Article 4 of Republic of Indonesia Law Number 21 of 2007 concerning Eradication of the Crime of Human Trafficking and/or Article 81 in conjunction.
