Airlines Told to Be Vigilant Following Plane Shooting in Dekai

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation of the Ministry of Transportation has urged airlines to heighten their vigilance following the shooting incident involving a Wings Air plane in Dekai, Yahukimo Regency, Papua Mountains, on Saturday (17/2/2024). "I urge airlines operating particularly on routes prone to security and flight safety disturbances to be vigilant and cautious, and to enhance coordination with all stakeholders before deciding to fly," said the Director General of Civil Aviation, M. Kristi Endah Murni, in a statement. She conveyed that instructions had been given to airlines operating in the Work Area of Airport Authority Region X Merauke to be more vigilant and careful, antaranews.com reported. "I also request a more meticulous Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) and intensive coordination with the Airport Operator Unit (UPBU) Head, AirNav Indonesia, and local security stakeholders to ensure flight safety, security, and comfort," Kristi added. Head of Airport Authority Region X Merauke, Asep K. Samapta, said that the Aviation Security (Avsec) patrol officers had inspected the runway and standby positions prior to the incident.
