Inp.polri.go.id - Cairo. The Indonesian Embassy in Cairo confirmed that Al-Azhar University has officially launched its Indonesian Language Department under the Faculty of Languages and Translation, marking a milestone in Indonesia’s linguistic diplomacy.
“Language is not only a tool of communication but also a unifying force. Bahasa Indonesia is among the world’s most spoken languages,” said Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu’ti, in a statement published by the Embassy on Saturday (8/11/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.
Al-Azhar University Rector Salamah Dawud said Indonesian becomes the 15th language taught at the university and praised Indonesian students for their strong morals and courtesy.
Minister Abdul Mu’ti also met Egyptian Education Minister Mohamed Abdel Latif to strengthen cooperation in curriculum development, teacher exchange, and educational technology. Both sides agreed to promote character-based and ethical education.
