The Jakarta Metro Jaya Regional Police and the East Jakarta Metropolitan Sub-regional Police have questioned five witnesses in the fatal shooting of a civilian security officer, known as  Hansip, in West Cakung, East Jakarta, after he confronted two suspected motorcycle thieves early Saturday morning.

“Three to five witnesses from Pam Swakarsa and nearby residents have provided statements,” said Metro Jaya  Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Budi Hermanto on Sunday (9/11/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The victim, identified as AS (42), was shot in the left abdomen and died at the scene. Investigators from East Jakarta Police and the Metro Jaya Police General Crime Directorate are analyzing CCTV footage, evidence gathered from the crime scene, and witness accounts.

According to police, the victim and two colleagues spotted two suspicious men attempting to pry open a motorcycle. The security officer drove toward the suspects and rammed his motorbike into theirs, triggering a scuffle before two gunshots were heard.

Police are hunting the perpetrators and urged the public to assist the investigation.
