Bali Law and Human Rights Office  Deports 340 Foreigners in 2023

The Bali Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights had deported a total of 340 foreign nationals in 2023, marking a significant increase from the 188 deported last year. "Various efforts have been undertaken to enhance supervision over the presence of foreign nationals in Bali," said Acting Head of the Bali Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Putu Murdiana, on Wednesday (31/1/2024). Data from the Office revealed that the deported foreigner primarily hailed from Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Nigeria, Australia, and China.  The reasons for deportation varied, ranging from exceeding the permitted duration of stay, visa violations to legal issues, antaranews.com reported. Out of the 340 deported foreign nationals, three underwent legal proceedings. Murdiana explained that the Office took several measures, including increasing the number of immigration officers, leveraging information technology, and enhancing collaboration with relevant parties, such as the Foreigners Supervision Team. He emphasized that the intensified supervision of foreigner was a key focus, given the rising number of international tourist visits. In 2023 alone, Bali welcomed 5.38 million foreign tourists, surpassing the target of 4.5 million. Meanwhile, David H. Tenggara, an Expert Staff Member of theHouse of Representativest' Commission III, said that the monitoring team's presence aimed to ensure the effective implementation of immigration laws by the Ministry of Law and Human Rights throughout the country.
