Bali Police Investigate Dolphin Exploitation After Viral YouTube Video

The Bali Regional Police have stepped up their investigation into allegations of dolphin exploitation following the viral release of a video by a German national identified as Robert Marc Lehmann on a YouTube channel. Senior Superintendent Jansen Avitus Panjaitan, the Head of the Bali Regional Police Public Relations Unit, saidĀ  on Thursday (6/12/2023) that the police were conducting an investigation to verify the claims made in the YouTube content, antaranews.com reported. The video suggests the exploitation of dolphins by PT. Taman Benoa Bali Exotic Marine Park. Lehman has reportedly passed on the information to the Indonesian ambassador in Berlin, urging swift legal action. On the instructions of the Chief of the Bali Regional Police, Police Inspector General Ida Bagus Kade Putra Narendra, the Sub-Directorate for Maritime Crime and the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Bali Regional Police launched inspections at the Bali Exotic Marine Park. "After interviews with witnesses, administrators and veterinarians, including the director of the Bali Exotic Marine Park in South Denpasar, we found that PT. Taman Benoa Bali Exotic is in possession of nine dolphins, including seven entrusted to them by the Natural Resources Conservation Agency, two of which have died. They have also received four dolphins as a grant from the conservation organisation PT. Wersut Seguni Indonesia in Kendal, Central Java," said Jansen. The inspection also showed that Bali Exotic Marine Park has various permits. The park also has a recommendation from the head of the Bali Provincial Environment Agency regarding the Environmental Impact Assessment , Environmental Management PlanĀ  and Environmental Monitoring Plan for the development of the animal performance stage. In addition, Bali Exotic Marine Park has a Conservation Institution Permit and a Wildlife Acquisition Permit. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
