Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Inspector General Sandi Nugroho, Head of the Indonesian National Police's (INP) Public Relations Division, has urged the media to report any police officer not adhering to neutrality rules in the upcoming 2024 elections.
"Please assist in safeguarding the police institution. Report individuals not following the rules, and let's avoid creating divisive opinions," he said on Thursday (7/12/2023). This comes in response to Tempo magazine's report under the headline "Serving and Protecting Candidates (text crossed out) Number Two," which raised questions about police neutrality. "We are reviewing Tempo's publications, whether in podcasts or magazines. A police observer has reported it to the Press Council," he confirmed. General Sandi asserted that police neutrality is mandated by law, including directives from INP Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, appeals, and circulars, antaranews.com reported. On social media, the @majalah.tempo account shared an article titled "Saga of the 2024 Presidential Election".  The post highlighted reports of regional leaders facing pressure from police and prosecutors to support presidential and vice-presidential candidates Prabowo Subianto, the current Minister of Defense, and Gibran Rakabuming Raka, the Mayor of Surakarta and the son of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo. The post also underscored threats of legal investigations related to the use of village funds against these officials. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
