A joint operation of the Drug Investigation Unit of the Bangka Belitung Regional Police and the Narcotics Investigation Unit of the West Bangka Sub-regional Police confiscated 35 kilograms of methamphetamine worth Rp35 billion from two couriers at the Tanjung Kalian Muntok Port, West Bangka.
The suspects, Handika alias Dika (26) from Tempilang, West Bangka, and Sien alias Sien (27) from Sungai Somor, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, were arrested.
According to Bangka Belitung Police Chief Inspector General Tornagogo Sihombing, the arrests were part of the police's commitment to eradicate drug circulation and abuse.
The suspects, acting as couriers, transported the drugs obtained from the Aceh border to Bangka Island by car. They claimed to have been instructed by an individual named FR, with a promise of Rp70 million as compensation.
The 35 kilograms of methamphetamine were concealed in green Chinese tea packaging, weighing 35,685 grams. Additionally, the police seized 2 white sacks, 2 mobile phones, cash totaling Rp1.3 million, and a car used by the suspects.
The suspects, detained at the Bangka Belitung Regional Police Headquarters, face charges under narcotics laws with penalties ranging from 6 years imprisonment to life or the death penalty.
