Head of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Dwikorita Karnawati warned Indonesians to remain vigilant with small tornados in March to April. “The small tornados possibly could still be happening in March. March to April. And we have to be careful, where although small tornados may not be happening, strong winds could still very much be happening,” said Dwikorita on Tuesday (2/27/2024). Furthermore, she clarified that the previous small tornados in West Java could reoccurred in another region in Indonesia with stronger winds and longer duration. She states that what the small tornado in West Java has the wind velocity of 65 km per hour, which is not a tornado where its minimum wind velocity is 100 km per hour. However, Dwikorita still implore and warned the people to go inside the strong building if they found black clouds, followed by strong winds, gathered in the sky. “If we saw the black clouds are gathering in the sky, it is best that we seek nearest building for cover. Preferably strong building, and I warn you not under a tree, because those black clouds could also emit lightning that may struck the tree,” explained Dwikorita. (ad/inp/pr/nm)
