Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has issued a weather alert for Wednesday, warning of potential extreme weather in most major cities due to atmospheric instability and seasonal transition.

“Light rain is expected in cities like Padang, Pekanbaru, Palembang, Ambon, and Sorong. Moderate rain may affect Medan and Jayapura, while Gorontalo and Tanjung Selor could see thunderstorms,” said BMKG forecaster Indah Fitrianti during a live briefing on Tuesday (8/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

Heavier cloud cover and fog are forecast throughout the day in Banda Aceh, Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Denpasar, with temperatures ranging from 25–30°C.

BMKG attributes the unstable conditions to slower wind speeds over Java, Seram Sea, and the southwest Indian Ocean, as well as the presence of Kelvin and Rossby waves. These atmospheric phenomena may trigger the formation of rain clouds, strong surface winds exceeding 25 knots, and sea waves as high as 4 meters from Banten to East Nusa Tenggara.
