Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) on Thursday (25/12/2025) confirmed that weather modification operations have effectively reduced rainfall intensity in flood- and landslide-hit areas across Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, supporting ongoing emergency response and recovery efforts.
“Monitoring shows that rain-free days over the past month outnumbered days with rainfall,” said BNPB Disaster Data and Information Center Head Abdul Muhari during a press briefing as reported by antaranews.com.
The operation, conducted over nearly one month, involved BNPB, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), and the Indonesian Military (TNI), aiming to suppress extreme rainfall during the peak wet season. Although localized heavy rain still triggered secondary flooding in parts of Agam Regency, West Sumatra, BNPB reported no new casualties beyond earlier incidents.
Authorities said joint teams will continue the operation to stabilize weather conditions, ensure aid distribution, and support public safety in affected provinces, particularly in vulnerable areas of West Sumatra.
