Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government has launched an auction for eight oil and gas working areas in 2025, including two blocks located in South Papua and Papua Mountains, as part of efforts to secure long-term national energy supply.
“To protect future energy availability, we continue to push upstream exploration to discover new reserves,” said Oil and Gas Director General Laode Sulaeman on Thursday (25/12/2025), as cited by antaranews.com.
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is offering three blocks through direct bidding and five through regular auctions. The eight blocks form part of 20 oil and gas areas offered nationwide this year, following earlier auction stages announced in June and October 2025.
Authorities said the auction targets capable investors and energy companies to strengthen upstream development. The government has also introduced incentives, including improved profit sharing, flexible contract schemes, full domestic market obligation pricing, and tax facilities, to enhance investment attractiveness, particularly in frontier regions such as Papua.
