Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has confirmed ongoing forest and land fires in Aceh, Riau, and Central Kalimantan, even as parts of the country remain in the rainy season.
The fires were reported between 1 to 16 January 2026, affecting mineral and peatland areas vulnerable to ignition.
“Wildfires are still occurring despite rainfall, particularly in neglected mineral and peatland areas,” said BNPB spokesperson Abdul Muhari on Saturday (17/1/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
In West Aceh, about 1.5 hectares burned, with firefighting efforts hampered by strong winds and limited water access. Riau recorded fires covering a total of 3.25 hectares in Dumai and Siak, while Central Kalimantan saw around six hectares burned in Kotawaringin Timur, where the blaze has since been contained.
BNPB urged local administrations and communities to remain alert, stressing that seasonal rain does not eliminate wildfire risks, especially in fire-prone landscapes.
