Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) revealed the chronology of a bomb threat joke on board Pelita Air flight IP205 from Surabaya to Jakarta that forced the plane to return to Juanda Airport in Surabaya, East Java.
An investigation initiated by the airline confirmed that a passenger had indeed made a bomb threat in a misguided attempt at humour, antaranews.com reported.
"The information is correct; there was a bomb threat on the plane made by one of the passengers as a joke," .Brigadier General Ahmad Ramadhan, the Public Information Head of the INP's Public Relations Division, told reporters in Jakarta on Wednesday (6/12/2023):
The incident occurred after the plane took off from Juanda Airport en route to Jakarta. Following the threat, the aircraft underwent a return to apron procedure, turning back to its departure airport.
General Ramadhan said all passengers were evacuated and authorities conducted a thorough search of the aircraft to ensure there was no real threat.
As a result of the incident, legal action was taken against the passenger who made the bomb threat. The individual is currently being detained and questioned by the security authorities in Surabaya.
