Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  In response to the detection of six cases of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections in Jakarta, Ministry of Health has initiated an epidemiological investigation aimed at containing the potential spread of the disease within the community. Director General of Disease Prevention and Control, Maxi Rein Rondonuwu, told a virtual press conference on Wednesday (6/12/2023) that the immediate action was taken following a report from the Jakarta Health Office two days prior, antaranews.com reported. He confirmed that all six cases of Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections were identified in children aged three to 13 years. Five patients were reported by Medistra Hospital, while the Jakarta Women and Children Clinic (JWCC) reported one case. Symptoms reported among the infected individuals were consistent with those of general pneumonia, including nasal discharge, shortness of breath, fever, cough, and headache. Director General Rondonuwu said that all patients have recovered. Providing details on the timeline of hospitalizations, he revealed that two patients were admitted to Medistra Hospital on 12 and 25 October, while the others underwent outpatient treatment in November. Laboratory tests conducted at Medistra Hospital confirmed Mycoplasma pneumoniae infection, with the Ministry of Health cross-verifying the results in the government laboratory network. Despite the mild nature of the symptoms, the Health Ministry undertook an epidemiological investigation to trace and monitor the close contacts of the affected individuals. Director General Rondonuwu emphasized the contagious nature of Mycoplasma pneumoniae, primarily transmitted through droplets. The investigation focused on identifying potential hotspots, including schools and residential areas, to implement necessary interventions and prevent further transmission. Highlighting the rising cases in China, he urged the community to remain vigilant and adopt clean and healthy lifestyles as a preventive measure against Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections.
