Inp.polri.go.id - Surabaya. The Head of Indonesia's Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI), Benny Rhamdani, urged a review of import regulations for goods owned by Indonesian migrant workers on Saturday (6/4/2024).
This request came following delays and restrictions on migrant goods in December 2023 due to the enactment of the Trade Ministry Regulation 36/2023 on import policy and regulation, according to antaranews.com.
While acknowledging Customs and Excise's need for transition, Benny highlighted confusion over categorizing and implementing restrictions.
He emphasized BP2MI's proposal for migrant goods exemption led to discrepancies. These regulations mainly target large-scale importers, but everyday migrant essentials suffer repercussions.
Although total relaxation is pending, Benny considered restricted relaxation as a step towards it. He beleived that amending regulations for migrant workers' welfare is not a mistake.
Customs and Excise Regional Office I Head, Untung Basuki, agreed with Benny's call for review, emphasizing the importance of accurate data validation.
