Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo has confirmed that infrastructure budgets, including for the Karangtalun Dam in East Java, have been temporarily frozen by Minister of Finance Sri Mulyani Indrawati under President Prabowo Subianto's directive.

"Large-scale projects like dam construction are on hold for now. We’re focusing on maximizing and optimizing existing resources to fully support food security," he said on Monday (18/11/2024).

Minister Dody explained that while progress is limited by the current budget freeze, the ministry is working to revitalize and optimize the country's 259 existing dams to ensure they meet food security needs. Construction on new projects will resume once funding becomes available.

"We’re awaiting budget allocation. The specific figures are still being discussed between ministries, led by Bappenas," Dody added, referring to the Ministry of National Development Planning.

Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti highlighted the government's goal of completing critical dam projects to achieve food self-sufficiency by 2028. Between 2015 and 2024, 61 dams were targeted for completion, with 11 new ones initiated since 2021.

The budget pause suggested a strategic shift in priorities, aligning infrastructure development with Indonesia’s food security agenda.
