Central Kalimantan Regional Police Chief Inspector General Djoko Poerwanto reminds people to be wise in social media, particularly as the voting day is in the horizon, says the Central Kalimantan Regional Police Public Relations Chief, Senior Superintendent Erlan Munaji on Sunday (1/28/2024).
Erlan explains that people have to be selective and mindful in reading and sharing the news related to the election. He continues that there are many news or information out there who did not have valid source, even fake, which only cause disruptions in the society.
“We implore the community to not easily trust and share information who do not have valid source. If there are any suspicious information, it is better to confirm it first,” says Erlan.
Moreover, Erlan also reminds the people not to be provoked by issues or news whose goal is to divide the unity of the state. He advised the people to be kind, tolerant, and respectful in interacting.
“Social Media should be the medium to convey our aspirations, sharing information and education that are beneficial for the community. We should not let social media to become the tool for spreading hate and hoax that could harm democracy and harmony of the state,” calls Erlan.
Furthermore, Erlan adds that his party will continue to monitor and enforce the law to those who spreads misinformation and hoax related to the election. He also urged the community to report any suspicious information to the authority.
“We will act firmly to anyone who have been proven guilty in spreading misinformation or hoax that disturbed national order and security as was stated in Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions," he concluded.
