Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) declared the forced disbandment of a Christian youth retreat in Cidahu, West Java, as a violation of basic human rights, including freedom of religion, assembly, and personal security.
“This was a form of persecution that violated tolerance enshrined in the constitution and left participants—mostly teenagers—traumatized,” said Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi, the Chair of Komnas HAM’s Human Rights Enforcement Subcommission, on Friday (11/7/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Based on a field investigation conducted on 3 and 4 July 2025, Komnas HAM found that retreat participants were forcibly evicted, their vehicles and accommodation damaged, following objections from local residents.
The Commission urged law enforcement to ensure justice and protection for the victims, called on local and central administration to promote religious tolerance and social harmony and asked the Ministry of Religious Affairs to issue affirmative policies to prevent future acts of intolerance and discrimination.
Komnas HAM emphasized that every citizen has the right to worship peacefully.
