inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan stated that his staff needed to take six key steps to resolve the forest and land fires in the Riau region.

"The first and foremost priority is to ensure that the forest and land fires are quickly extinguished so that the smoke does not spread, especially to neighboring countries," said the Coordinating Minister on Wednesday (7/23/2025).

Therefore, the Coordinating Minister instructed all ranks of the forest and land fire task force under his auspices to deploy available personnel and equipment to extinguish hotspots.

Second, the Coordinating Minister instructed the Ministry of Forestry to deploy technical teams to the locations to carry out land remediation efforts affected by the fires.

Furthermore, he directed his staff to audit all concessions in the 21 regencies/cities affected by the forest and land fires.

"Fourth, a temporary moratorium on new permits on peatlands, at least until the emergency situation is over, focusing on the regions of Riau, West Kalimantan, Jambi, and South Sumatra," said the Coordinating Minister.

"Furthermore, firm law enforcement measures must be taken consistently by the Indonesian National Police and the Prosecutor's Office," continued Coordinating Minister Budi Gunawan. 

Finally, he requested that all parties implement administrative sanctions against those proven to be involved in forest fires.

He also specifically instructed the Minister of Forestry to revoke the concessions of parties proven to be involved in forest and land fires.

With these various efforts, Budi Gunawan is confident that the forest and land fire problem throughout Indonesia can be effectively addressed.

"I am very confident that with our shared commitment and synergy, we will be able to overcome the current emergency situation," concluded the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs.
