Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The House of Representatives (DPR) and the government have agreed not to revise the Regional Elections Law this year, confirming that no amendment will be discussed in 2026, a senior lawmaker said on Monday (19/1/2026).
“We have agreed that the Law is not included in this year’s National Legislation Program, so there will be no discussion on revising it,” DPR Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad said during a press briefing at the DPR complex, as reported by antaranews.co,.
He explained that the bill to amend Law No. 10/2016 on Regional Elections is absent from the 2026 Priority National Legislation Program, making any revision procedurally impossible. He added that the DPR is currently focused on implementing Constitutional Court rulings related to the General Elections Law.
The statement came amid public debate over proposals to shift regional elections from direct voting to selection by regional councils. Dasco urged clarity to prevent misinformation and asked Commission II to convey the agreement to the public.
