Inp.polri.go.id - Pangkalpinang.  The Indonesian Film Censorship Board (LSF) has censored 40,000 films, advertisements, and titles this year to ensure high-quality content for the public.

“We’ve censored 40,000 films for theaters, TV, rentals, and online platforms,” said LSF Deputy Chairman Noorca M Massardi at the launch of the National Independent Censorship Movement in Pangkalpinang on Wednesday (2/10/2024).

All films distributed in Indonesia must obtain a censorship certificate from the LSF under Law No. 33 of 2009. 

However, Noorca noted that with only 17 members, the LSF struggles to monitor all content, especially online. He added that internet monitoring falls under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kemenkominfo).

To address this, LSF is promoting a National Independent Censorship Movement, aiming to prevent harmful content, including violence and pornography, by educating the public to self-censor. They are holding events at 120 locations, scheduled to finish by November.

Noorca also clarified that LSF’s role is now limited to classifying films based on age categories—'All Ages,' '13+,' '17+,' and '21+'—instead of cutting scenes, as reported by antaranews.com.
