Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs (KemenKopUKM) has confirmed that the Chinese app TEMU will not enter Indonesia due to its potential harm to local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

“If TEMU enters Indonesia, it will pose a serious threat to local SMEs by allowing direct transactions between Chinese factories and consumers, bypassing sellers and undercutting local businesses,” said Fiki Satari, the Special Staff for Creative Economy Empowerment, on Wednesday (2/10/2024), as quoted by antaranews.com.

TEMU, which has already expanded to the U.S. and European markets, is now targeting Southeast Asia, including Thailand and Malaysia. The platform’s strategy of offering factory-direct products at very low prices could disrupt local businesses.

Since September 2022, TEMU has attempted to register its brand three times in Indonesia, most recently on 22 July 2024, but was rejected due to an existing local trademark.

Fiki urged government agencies to work together to keep TEMU out of the country,
