Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has ordered the Directorate General of Customs and Excise to improve its performance and rebuild public trust within one year, warning that failure could lead to drastic institutional restructuring.

Speaking at the House of Representatives (DPR) Complex on Thursday (27/11/2025), he said he had already summoned senior Customs officials and highlighted their urgent credibility problems.

“I asked the President for one year, without disruption, so I can fix and reform Customs,” Minister Purbaya said, as cited by antaranews.com.

He noted that officials within the agency are aware of the risks, including a scenario similar to the New Order era, when Customs duties were outsourced to Swiss company Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) due to poor governance.

“If we fail to fix this, 16,000 Customs employees could lose their jobs. They are smart people, and they are ready to change,” Minister Purbaya said.

The government is also implementing artificial intelligence (AI) to accelerate customs processes and detect practices such as underinvoicing, aiming to strengthen revenue monitoring and reduce misconduct.

According to the Ministry of Finance, customs and excise revenues reached Rp249.3 trillion as of October 2025, or 82.7% of the national budget target, driven by rising export duty and excise receipts.
