47 Deaths Reported as Hydrometeorological Disasters Hit North Sumatra

Inp.polri.go.id - Medan. A total of 47 people have been confirmed dead, nine poeple remain missing and 67 others were injured after severe hydrometeorological disasters, including flash floods and landslides, struck 13 regencies and cities in North Sumatra over the past several days. 

“As of today, we have identified 123 victims, including 47 fatalities, nine missing, and 67 injured, both severely and lightly,” said Tuahta Ramajaya Saragih, the Head of the North Sumatra Disaster Mitigation Regional Agency (BPBD) on Thursday (27/11/2025), as cited by antaranews.com.

South Tapanuli reported the highest number of victims, with 15 deaths and 58 injuries, followed by Humbang Hasundutan (5 deaths and 4 missing), Sibolga (17 deaths), and North Tapanuli (3 deaths and 5 missing). Other fatalities were recorded in Central Tapanuli (4 deaths), Pakpak Bharat (2 deaths), and Padangsidimpuan (1 death).

Authorities also reported significant displacement, with more than 3,000 evacuees in South Tapanuli, 776 families in Mandailing Natal, and smaller groups in Padangsidimpuan and North Tapanuli.

The disaster was triggered by Tropical Cyclone Senyar, formed from Tropical Disturbance 95B in the eastern waters of Aceh, causing extreme weather, high waves, and strong winds across North Sumatra this week..
