Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) confirmed on Sunday that three bodies of miners trapped in the Grasberg Block Cave (GBC) underground mine in Mimika, Central Papua, have been recovered, as rescue teams continue efforts to locate the remaining workers.
“On behalf of the company, I extend my deepest condolences to the families who have been in Tembagapura since September 14. May God give us all strength,” said Tony Wenas, the President Director of PTFI, on Sunday (5/10/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
The first victim, identified as Victor Bastida Ballesteros, a Chilean citizen employed by PT Redpath Indonesia, was found around 12.00 pm, while two others were recovered at 4.53 pm and remain under identification.
Freeport said rescue operations remain underway despite difficult underground conditions. The company is providing full assistance to affected families and supporting the identification process.
The mudslide incident occurred on 8 September 2025, trapping seven miners underground. As of Sunday, five workers have been found.
