Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi explained that operational restrictions for freight transport during the 2026 Eid Al-Fitr holiday period are vital for public safety.

Under a Joint Decree with the Ministry of Public Works and Indonesian National Police (INP), heavy vehicles will be restricted on toll and arterial roads from 13 to 29 March 2026. The policy aims to mitigate severe gridlock and reduce accidents during the massive annual exodus.

"Public safety and the smooth flow of homebound and return traffic during the 2026 Eid period remain the government’s top priority," the Minister said on Monday (16/2/2026), as reported by antaranews.com.

Evaluations from 2024 revealed that freight-related accidents accounted for over 27,000 incidents, with overloaded trucks being a primary cause of fatalities. While business operations are affected, exemptions apply to vehicles carrying fuel, livestock, fertilizer, and basic food necessities. 

Authorities issued the decree early to allow logistics providers to finalize shipments before the restrictions commence, ensuring a balanced approach between commerce and commuter safety.
