inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The General Chairman of the Communion of Papuan Churches (PGGP), Reverend M.P.A. Maury, called on all religious communities to offer their thanks to the Almighty God for a blessed 2026.
"We should be grateful to God as He has brought us safely to 2026. January has also passed and now we are in February, and everything is going well, both in terms of public order and security in Papua Province," he said.
However, Maury expressed concern over the number of violent incidents that have occurred in the past two to three weeks. He said religious leaders were shocked by the various shooting incidents, which he considered brutal and deliberate, in several areas in Papua.
According to him, these acts are deeply disappointing and violate the values of sanctity of life upheld by all religious teachings.
"No religion will accept or tolerate shootings, whether of pilots, passengers, or civilians in various regions," he said.
He emphasized that these acts of violence are inhumane and contrary to human values. Therefore, he called on all religious leaders to speak out firmly against these incidents to prevent a recurrence.
On that occasion, Maury also called on all religious leaders and congregations from various backgrounds to continue praying for and supporting the government, particularly the Indonesian National Police (INP) and the Damai Cartenz Task Force, in carrying out their duties of maintaining security and providing protection to the community.
Maury also expressed his appreciation to the Damai Cartenz Task Force, which he considered to have consistently carried out its duties and responsibilities in providing security, guarding, and protecting the community.
