Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra confirmed that the Indonesian government is committed to protecting citizens facing legal trouble overseas, including those accused of wrongdoing.

"Yes, absolutely. Even if our citizens are at fault, we still protect them—especially if they are not,” Yusril said Thursday (17/4/2025) at the Presidential Palace, as quoted by antaranews.com.

He referred the recent detention of Indonesian student Aditya Harsono Wicaksono in Minnesota, USA, by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) following the sudden revocation of his student visa. Aditya was reportedly linked to protests related to the Black Lives Matter movement in 2021.

Aditya remains in custody at Kandiyohi County Jail, and both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Law are providing consular support.
