Inp.polri.go.id - Medan. North Sumatra Governor Bobby Nasution expressed deep regret over the death of a 21-year-old man from Simeulue, Aceh, who was killed inside the Sibolga Grand Mosque on 31 October 2025.
“It’s truly regrettable. That’s a house of worship, a mosque, the house of God,” he said on Tuesday (4/11/2025), as reported by antaranews.com
The victim, Arjuna Tamaraya, reportedly stopped to rest in the mosque before being assaulted by several men. Police have arrested five suspects, identified as ZPA, HBK, SS, REC, and CLI, based on CCTV footage near the scene.
“The suspects face charges under the Criminal Code for murder and group violence,” Sibolga Sub-regional Police Chief Superintendent Eddy Inganta said.
Governor Bobby urged mosques to remain open to travelers and reaffirmed that places of worship should serve positive purposes, noting that “helping travelers is a religious duty.”
