Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government is moving ahead with advanced clinical trials for the V181-005 dengue vaccine to curb infections and reduce the country’s economic burden.

“This trial has the potential to accelerate protection for children and improve compliance,”  Food and Drugs Authority (BPOM) Chief Taruna Ikrar said on Wednesday (3/12/2025), adding that the study follows approval issued in August 2025.

The decision aligns with WHO data showing more than 257,000 dengue cases and 1,400 deaths in 2024, while earlier studies estimated Indonesia’s dengue-related economic burden at USD 381.15 million.

Supported by the Ministry of Health, BPOM, and biopharmaceutical company MSD, RSCM Hospital and University of Indonesia researchers are testing a single-dose vaccine for individuals aged two years and above.

Now entering Phase 3, the trial will involve over 10,000 healthy participants across several countries, including 1,000 in Indonesia. Researchers will evaluate long-term safety, immunogenicity, and efficacy under strict Good Clinical Practice monitoring.
