Inp.polri.go.id - Denpasar. Bali Governor Wayan Koster announced plans on Wednesday (3/12/2025) to stop Airbnb-style accommodations, arguing they do not contribute to Bali’s locally generated revenue. 

“We will study the matter and propose that these operations be stopped,” he said during the 15th Regional Congress of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) in Denpasar, as reported by antaranews.com

Governor Koster said digital-based lodging platforms undermine tax-derived regional income and contribute to declining hotel occupancy despite rising tourist arrivals. He added that more than 2,000 unlicensed hotels and villas operate across the island and must be regulated. 

PHRI Bali estimates that while its members number 378, online-listed accommodations may reach 16,000 units, including properties leased and marketed illegally by foreign nationals.

Bali’s regional revenue reached Rp15.3 trillion as of October 2025, with regional taxes providing Rp12 trillion.
