Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian government has opted not to co-sponsor UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which condemns Iranian attacks on Gulf nations, citing the need for a more balanced and inclusive diplomatic approach to the Middle East crisis.
“Indonesia did not co-sponsor the resolution because we believe that resolving such complex issues requires not only inclusivity but also a balanced perspective to ensure a sustainable peaceful solution,” said Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Nabyl A. Mulachela in Jakarta on Friday (13/3/2026), as cited by antaranews.co .
While the resolution, adopted Wednesday with 13 votes in favor and abstentions from Russia and China, specifically denounces Iranian strikes on residential areas and maritime trade in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, Jakarta has taken a neutral stance.
The Ministry emphasized that Indonesia is simultaneously urging the United States and Israel to cease their military operations against Iran, while calling on Tehran to halt retaliatory strikes the 28 February 2026 US-Israel strikes against Iran that triggered the war.
