Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Forest Area Enforcement Task Force has seized 4,610 cubic meters of illegally logged timber transported from the Mentawai Islands to East Java, uncovering an organized logging network involving a corporate suspect, PT BRN.
The timber was confiscated from a barge and tugboat docked at Gresik Port, East Java.
“This illegal wood originated from Sipora Forest in West Sumatra and was sold to companies in Gresik and Jepara,” said Anang Supriatna, the Head of the Legal Information Center at the Attorney General’s Office, on Tuesday (14/10/2025), as reported by antaranews.com.
He added that forged landowner documents were used to cover deforestation on 730 hectares of protected land.
Prosecutors estimated state losses at Rp239 billion (US$14.5 million), including Rp198 billion in ecological damage. The Attorney General’s Office has named PT BRN and a person identified as IM as suspects.
Attorney General ST Burhanuddin has vowed to pursue all parties involved, calling the case a serious environmental crime.
