inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, assessed that fisheries cultivation should be the main solution as if production reaches 5 million tons, fishing at sea can be stopped.
"If we are able to produce 5 million tons from cultivation. Then fishing at sea, I would say, can be stopped," he said, as reported by the RRI page.
However, in his remarks, there are several high-value commodities that can only be caught at sea. However, the technology used must be environmentally friendly and not damage other marine biota.
According to him, destructive fishing practices such as using trolls are a form of corruption against the ecosystem. He emphasized that resource management must focus on sustainability.
Fish farming such as Tilapia in Indonesia also still needs improvement. Superior seeds and technology that meets best practice standards are the main challenges.
He also said that President Prabowo Subianto challenged him to revitalize and build the strength of the fisheries farming sector. The goal is for cultivation to become a mainstay for the sustainability of Indonesia's fisheries resources.
