Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources confirmed that mining permits already issued will not require spatial plan changes under Law No. 2/2025 on Mineral and Coal Mining.
“In the Law, it’s clearly stated that permits already granted will not be subject to spatial plan revisions,” said Tri Winarno, the Director General of Mineral and Coal at the Energy Ministry, during a visit with Minister Bahlil Lahadalia to Gag Island, Saturday (7/6/2025).
His remarks came in response to Constitutional Court ruling No. 35/PUU-XXI/2023, which bans mining in coastal and small island areas due to environmental risks. Tri added that PT GAG Nikel’s operations fall under a special exemption. GAG Nikel is owned by state mining company Antam.
“GAG Nikel holds a Contract of Work and is among 13 contracts exempted from the forest protection law,” he explained, as quoted by antaranews.com
The Energy Ministry has deployed an inspection team to ensure all procedures are followed, following temporary suspension of operations amid public complaints.
