Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Health has launched the Indonesia Healthcare AI Hackathon 2025 to accelerate innovation and strengthen the national health system through artificial intelligence (AI).

The competition focuses on AI-based solutions for five priority diseases: stroke, stunting, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and tuberculosis (TB).

Deputy Minister  of Health Dante Saksono Harbuwono said AI offers a “smart solution” to address disparities in healthcare services across Indonesia’s 17,000 islands. “Traditional approaches alone are not enough. AI empowers, not replaces, health workers,” he said in  on Monday (13/10/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

The ministry has already applied AI in several services, including TB detection via x-ray, stroke and cancer identification, and a diabetes risk chatbot. Deputy Minister Dante noted that AI-based hospital information systems have cut waiting times by 70% and boosted patient satisfaction by 35%.

Over 278 participants from 10 countries joined the hackathon, exceeding the initial target of 40. The winning innovations will be evaluated and integrated into SATUSEHAT, Indonesia’s unified health data platform.
