Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Health is monitoring eight pilot villages and urban communities participating in the Desa/Kelurahan Siaga TBC program (Tuberculosis vigilance villages/districs) until August 2025, following its launch on 9 May 2025.

“The initiative emphasizes community participation at the grassroots level in tackling tuberculosis,” said Health Ministry spokesperson Aji Muhawarman on Thursday (5/6/2025).

The pilot locations include East Jakarta, Bogor, Bekasi, Karawang, Cianjur, Brebes, Tangerang city, and Medan. The Ministry of Health encourages other regions to replicate the initiative. For example, over 250 districts in Jakarta have already adopted tuberculosis-alert frameworks since 2024.

The program is backed by a joint decree and technical guidelines from the MoH, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Villages, and Ministry of Transmigration.

Key measures include early detection, public education, digital data integration, and support for the upcoming M72 vaccine. Despite free diagnosis and treatment, many patients face financial burdens like transport and income loss, which risk treatment dropouts and increased transmission of drug-resistant tuberculosis.

WHO data from 2024 shows Indonesia has 1.09 million tuberculosis cases annually with 125,000 deaths—15 every hour.
