Inp.polri.go.id - Lubuk Basung. The West Sumatra Regional Police’s Mobile Brigade ( Brimob) has intensified recovery efforts in Palembayan, Agam Regency, West Sumatra, following devastating flash floods and landslides.
Deploying heavy machinery and specialized personnel, the unit is currently clearing a two-kilometer irrigation canal obstructed by thick mud to restore water flow to local farmlands and prevent further residential flooding.
"We have completed 1.5 kilometers of clearance this week and expect to reach our two-kilometer target within two days," said Senior Inspector Dasrinal, the Sub-Task Force Head of Emergency Response, on Friday (23/1/2026), as cited by antaranews.com.
Beyond irrigation, the Mobile Brigade has installed four Bailey bridges to reconnect isolated villages and is constructing boreholes to provide clean water. These operations are part of a massive recovery mission addressing the November 2025 disaster, which claimed 166 lives and caused an estimated $R6.51$ trillion in damages.
Police officers remain deployed to rehabilitate schools, temporary shelters, and places of worship to ensure rapid stabilization for the affected community.
