inp.polri.go.id - Palembang. The South Sumatra Regional Police reaffirmed its strong commitment to maintaining public order and security by destroying hundreds of pieces of illegally assembled firearms.

The destruction of evidence of the 2026 Musi Illegal Firearms Operation was led by the South Sumatra Regional Police Chief on Friday (July 3, 2026).

The operation itself was successfully carried out over 16 days, from June 12 to 27, 2026.

The South Sumatra Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Sandi Nugroho emphasized that the eradication of illegal firearms circulation is clear evidence of the state's involvement in protecting its citizens.

"The results of this operation are quite significant, both long-barreled and short-barreled firearms were seized. This demonstrates the state's presence to protect the public in firearms-related activities," said Sandi.

Furthermore, he told the media that this operation was driven by one noble goal: to ensure the public's freedom and sense of security from armed threats.

"The South Sumatra Regional Police confirm that this responsibility to maintain security and order represents the state's presence among the people. The goal is to ensure that people can safely carry out their activities, work, worship, and attend school without fear due to the large number of firearms in circulation," he emphasized.

Based on operational data, the 2026 Musi Senpi Operation successfully uncovered 32 cases of firearms misuse, with 31 suspects arrested. A total of 397 firearms were destroyed, consisting of 284 long-barreled firearms and 113 short-barreled firearms.

According to Sandi, this success was the result of the hard, intelligent, thorough, and sincere work of a police team.

Furthermore, this police success was inextricably linked to the high level of public awareness and active participation. This was evidenced by the voluntary surrender of 234 firearms by the community.

The destruction of hundreds of firearms is not merely a symbol of law enforcement, but a concrete manifestation of the police's protective spirit and support. As a manifestation of the state's presence, the police continue to affirm their commitment to maintaining harmony, ensuring that South Sumatra remains safe, peaceful, and conducive.
