inp.polri.go.id – Sorong. Chief of West Papua Regional Police, Police Inspector General Tornagogo Sihombing emphasized that the existence of local West Papuan culture is a manifestation of cultural originality that lives with the continuity of traditions and cultures that have been seen and experienced so far.
In addition, the Chief of West Papua Regional Police also explained that the values of religiosity, togetherness, mutual forgiveness, trust and brotherhood that uphold local wisdom are also elements of glue and social capital in society. This should be socialized in television and radio content to increase information security in the community in the digital era.
The Chief of West Papua Regional Police conveyed this in his remarks at the Literacy Movement for a Million Viewers (GLSP) held by the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) in Sorong, West Papua, quoted from the KPI website, Wednesday (17/11/2021).
The Chief of West Papua Regional Police also reminded GLSP participants who are members of Bhayangkari West Papua to increase media literacy capacity in consuming content in the media. "I hope Bhayangkari members can be critical of television and radio broadcasts," the Chief of West Papua Regional Police appealed.
This criticality indeed culminates in the ability to sort and choose good media content to listen to and watch. The hope is that the family also understands choosing television content that suits their needs.
The Chief of West Papua Regional Police said that the challenges ahead with advances in information technology, including broadcasting technology, must be accompanied by literacy skills in the community. This is also a contribution to keeping the broadcasting industry afloat with positive and helpful content.
In particular, he appreciated KPI's steps in cooperating with the West Papua Regional Police in organizing GLSP. "We are thirsty for this kind of socialization because media technology is in our hands, and we must have intelligence in using it," he said.
In this GLSP, a Bazaar for Small, Cooperative and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) was also held from the Bhayangkari board of directors in the West Papua region. Chairman of Bhayangkari West Papua, Martha Sihombing, explained that the MSME Bazaar product was the work of Bhayangkari members in every branch in West Papua. Various MSME products are marketed, most of which use natural resources native to West Papua.
Present at this GLSP, Head of Central KPI Agung Suprio, Commissioner of Central KPI Hardly Stefano Pariela, Nuning Rodiyah, Chairman of Bhayangkari Manokwari Branch who was also a resource person for GLSP Feilin Tanita, and Martha Victoria from Academy Indosiar 2020 came from West Papua.
