Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and China's National Commission of Supervision (NCS) signed an updated memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen their collaboration in combating corruption across borders.
This agreement was signed during the Clean Silk Road initiative forum, which is part of the Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation, held from October 17-18, 2023, antaranews.com reported.
"There is the need for global collaboration in the fight against corruption," said KPK Deputy Chairman Johanis Tana, stressing the importance of international cooperation in investigating, prosecuting, and adjudicating transnational corruption cases and money laundering.
The MoU focuses on cooperation in law enforcement against corruption and money laundering, the pursuit of fugitives, and the recovery of assets from corrupt activities. It aims to ensure that the Belt and Road Initiative is founded on transparent governance in financing, procurement, and project implementation to prevent corruption and promote a corruption-free environment.
Both agencies will also work together to address unethical business practices and leverage technology to enhance transparency and reduce errors in business permits and licensing processes. Indonesia and China has been collaborating since 2007, with notable successes in fugitive capture and information exchange.
The NCS is China's anti-corruption agency, established in 2018 through the merger of two agencies: Ministry of Supervision and the National Bureau of Corruption Prevention.
