Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has initiated the first stage of evacuating Indonesian citizens from Iran following escalating tensions in the Gulf.
Acting Director for Indonesian Citizen Protection Heni Hamidah announced on Friday (6/3/2026) that 32 Indonesians are scheduled for the initial departure, with the evacuation route passing through Azerbaijan for safety.
"The evacuation of Indonesian citizens in Iran will begin gradually today, with the first phase moving through Azerbaijan," she confirmed during a media briefing reported by antaranews.com.
The logistical plan involves a ten-hour overland journey from Tehran to Baku, Azerbaijan, where the group will then board flights to Jakarta. This route was selected by the Indonesian Embassies in Tehran and Baku as the most secure corridor given current regional airspace disruptions.
While 32 people are listed for this primary group, officials noted the figure may shift based on real-time field dynamics.
